Silk Duvet - Heritage Of Craftsmanship

Silk duvet has a long history, with the technique having been passed down mainly in the Taihu Lake area of China. During the Tang and Song dynasties, the processing and production of silk reached a considerable scale. In the Ming and Qing dynasties, it became an essential family business for farmers in the silkworm countryside. The number of cocoons produced each year is limited by the climate, land, labour and other conditions. Consequently, high-quality silk was first mainly used as a tax in kind and later included in the tribute.
Due to the small number of mulberry silk production, silk, in addition to as a tax in kind or tribute to the court, in the private sector is generally only used by some wealthy merchants and nobles. Silk duvets are even rarer due to the complexity of their production process.
Traditional handmade silk duvet production has to follow the process below:
selection of cocoon - cooking cocoon - peeling cocoon - dehydration and drying - inspection - cutting off - drawing silk net - turning the duvet cover - positioning -Inspection
With the advent of the era of industrialisation and scale, the difficulty of making silk quilts by hand has been greatly reduced, but it still requires experienced craftsmen to pull apart the silk mesh by hand, which is highly demanding due to the resilience of mulberry silk. The entire process is completely manual, which is very time-consuming and labor-intensive, because 1kg filling of the silk duvet requires 600 times of drawing, but it's also incredibly rewarding.
Silk has the reputation of being the second skin of the human body. Silk duvets are soft, close to the skin, absorbent and light, with a cloud-like comfortable feel. According to scientific experiments, mulberry silk duvet can maintain the body temperature around 32°C in different sleeping environments. It is a good choice to choose mulberry silk duvet to promote your sleep.
